Dear SSRL SIG members,
We hope that all of you are doing well and that you are having a wonderful time preparing for the 2019 AERA Annual Meeting! This year’s meeting will be held in April 5-9th in Toronto, Canada.
The spring newsletter (please see at the bottom of this post) was carefully designed to bring you the best of our SIG.
1. In this newsletter, Dr. Dale Schunk describes the importance of training college students to take control of their learning process through the use of self-regulated learning strategies. Dr. Kenneth A. Kiewra explains the evolution of his research agenda across time. Dr. Peggy Chen tells us about her ongoing research through an interview with Mr. Kyle Du, our SIG’s junior historian.
In this newsletter, you will be treated with overviews of research studies being led by MeganClaire Cogliano, Jennifer Mischel, Sarah Davis, and Yeo-Eun Kim.
Dr. Matthew L. Bernacki announces that Dr. Tova Michalsky from Bar-Ilan University will receive our SIG’s Poster Award for her research (“Preservice Teachers’ Professional Vision for and Capacity to Teach Self-Regulated Learning: Effects of Scaffolding Level”).
2. Our SIG business meeting will be on Sunday, April 7, 2019, in Toronto.
Dr. Daniel C. Moos, professor and department chair in education at Gustavus Adolphus College, will deliver the keynote address during the business meeting. Professor Moos’ research agenda focuses on self-regulated learning within the context of emerging technologies. Through his research, he has begun to examine self-regulated learning within the context of teacher education programs. He will make the case that a teacher as a learner is the missing ingredient for integrating self-regulated learning in the classroom.
3. Please join us for our SIG dinner at Aanch – Modernistic Indian Cuisine, following our Business Meeting on Sunday, April 7th. Feel free to bring your family, non-SIG-member conference buddies. You can order whatever you wish from the menu, and each person pays separately. Aanch is about a 6-minute walk from the Convention Center. See below for more details and the link to RSVP.
Time: 9:00 pm Sunday, April 7, 2019 (after our SSRL SIG Business Meeting)
